Elmira, New York (State Penitentiary March ‘99)

‘’Good morning young man,’’ the Parole Commissioner said in a jovial tone.

‘’Good morning’’ the nervous young man said looking at the floor.

‘’You may be seated. Today you are up before the Parole Committee. I would like to introduce to you the Parole Board Members. This is Mr. Chambers, Mrs. Saunders, and I am Mr. Thornton.’’ Mr. Thornton said cutting on a recording device to tape the entire parole hearing.

‘’Please state your full name.’’

‘’My name is Henry Shelawn Anderson.’’

‘’Alrighty Mr. Anderson, it says here that you have been convicted of the following offenses:

Assault & Battery on Police Officers, Attempted Abduction, Reckless Endangerment, Resisting Arrest, Aggravated Sexual Assault, and Threatening a Witness. Can you explain to us why you performed such heinous acts?’’

‘’Yes sir.’’ Henry said humbly.

‘’As far as the police are concerned, they were dirty cops that tried to rob me and take my life. I was just defending myself and fighting for my life. I was high on PCP at the time of my arrest, so I didn’t realize the extent of my actions until after it was all said and done.’’
